Tips For Designing Standout Flyers And Leaflets

Flyer/leaflet design Bedford - Cosanostra Design

Now that events and exhibitions are up and running again, you may be considering distributing some promotional flyers and leaflets to drum up customers. It’s easy enough to put together something from a template of course, but you’ll have a more unique and satisfying result if you put some thought into exactly what works best.

The purpose of the flyer is to catch the reader’s attention and instantly convey some information. Start with a succinct headline that piques the interest, and then follow it up by getting straight to the point.

Edit your content down ruthlessly, so that you include just the essentials. Your reader probably won’t bother with the small print anyway, and a whole chunk of text is off-putting. Finish off with a call to action, which tells the reader where they need to go, who to call, which website to visit, and so on.

If there is still a lot of content that you just can’t cut out, break it up into small digestible sections with subheadings and plenty of whitespace around them. If you need to include facts and data, make it visually interesting with charts, infographics, and bullet points. Proofread all text several times to avoid costly reprints.

Colour is a good tool for creating an emotional response in a viewer, so use it if you can. Certain colours convey different moods; red and yellow are seen as youthful and energetic for example, while green and blue are seen as calming and authoritative, so select whatever helps to convey your brand message best.

If you are using photographs or other imagery, make sure they are high-resolution and not blurry and faded. The same goes for any logo or branding that you use. Clear images and crisp fonts will make sure your business looks professional. For that standout edge, choose a high-quality paper which is finished with a matte or gloss coating.
